Who is Suede Mozart???
Suede is the guy that grew up in Baltimore Maryland hanging in the rough streets of the city. Growing up in a rough city like Baltimore, you experience a lot, a lot of heartache and pain. But it wasn't all bad because I had an outlet that gave me hope, that hope was music. Being the youngest of eight siblings, I had the benefit of absorbing from eight musical talents. My second from older brother "Big Vern" introduced me to hip hop. He had his own equipment at the time and him and his friends would make music every day, all day. "Upper Ground Productions" which was a dope name I thought. It fit the conscious vibe he was on back then. With them big house speakers vibrating the floor. I would put my ear to the door, trying to hear the muffled lyrics from the speakers. But the basement was off limits when him and his friends getting it in.
But everyday for almost a year, I would set at the door and dream of going down there with the big guys. Over a period of time, I started writing rhymes to the beats I heard through the door. One day my brother came upstairs and caught me setting at the door listening. He looked at me and laughed and asked me did I want to come down. I started freestyling about the names off every bit of studio equipment he had in his studio. I didn't even no what most of it was used for. It was a very tight freestyle. He was very impressed. At that moment, I knew I had his stamp of approval . That was the beginning of my forever love, "Hip Hop Music".
All those verses I noted down setting outside the door. I was able to record some of them after a while. My brother had no idea I was that good. I later formed my own group called "5 & Eye". We didn't really record much. My brother didn't really have the time. He was busy with him and his crew. But we would rap outside everywhere we went. Building up a strong reputation in the streets. If you ask me, we was like the first "WU-Tang"..LoL.. That's probably why we love them so much when we first heard them.
As time went on, to be honest. The 5 Eye dudes was a bunch of hustlers that like to rap. Hustling and moving about in the city. We stumble across a producer name Grady at a point and time. Some how later we put Mr. to it, Mr. Grady. He had a old man's name. But he was around our age, lol. I thought that was dope as hell. He was a wizard behind them boards. His sound was amazing. I learned a whole lot from him about beat making. Grady Studio's was where my team planted our flag for good. Like I said, my brother gave me Hip Hop, but my oldest brother, he gave me melody. Grady's grit production, embodied the streets.
"Nivla Entertainment" was my oldest brothers label (R.I.P) Which is his name "Alvin" spelled backwards. Which is very creative if I may say so myself. He had his own studio also with his band doing R&B. I played drums very well and I was dope at digital drum programming also. So he would have me do all his drum programming for his R&B recordings. He was a great song writer and keyboard player, he played bass also. But he couldn't program drums well. That's where I came in. He taught me cord progressions and melody. Although I never gravitated to learning how to play the keyboard. I can easily build my own riffs and Incorporate it into my Hip Hop production to this day. I enjoyed the R&B time with him. It exposed me to so many other sounds that wasn't typically used in Hip Hop at that time. I was able to score & edit two short films for "Little Morron Production " while living in Florida. Which was an amazing experience.
Now, all my sister's were heavy into church and singing in the choir. They would all come together and start singing, out the blue. At any event or occasion, they were known to shut it down. When they sing, you would stop and listen. That's where I developed my ear for harmony, I loved it all from lite rock, like "Bon Jovi", "Hall & Oats" and "Heart" To "Public Enemy" up to "Nas" and "Jay-Z". The new school is dope as well, from the "Kendrick's" and "J Cole's" up to the "Lil Baby's" and so on. It's to much to cover at one time but that's briefly what makes my sound different.
With Hip Hop being my first love and being influenced by so many other elements, "Orchestrated Sound" is what you get. The origin of my name Suede was giving to me from my best friend in high school "Ken-O" back in the day. He said he was going to call me that because he thought I was a smooth dude and I had a laid back personality. He was one of the funny guys in school so I didn't take him seriously. I got mad actually and told him I didn't like it and don't call me that. But he leaked it out to a few girls and then they all started calling me that because they liked it. So you know how that goes, The girls like it! I started liking it.. Period! After I graduated, running around in the streets of Baltimore I decided to keep the nickname. Because of all my different music influences "Mozart" fit the bill. Main reason, I really enjoyed listening to Mozart. I loved Orchestra music. I would mimic cord progressions from Mozart. I sampled at times from Mozart pieces in my production back then also. In short, friends, family, everybody calls me "Suede". But when I do the music, its appropriate to add "Mozart" to the end of that in my eyes. When them two names come together, your getting "Orchestrated Sound"
